Tour report
When the Ground Grows Smaller
Oberstdorf is one of those places where the mountains seem close enough to touch. But up at the Höfatsblick launch site, everything felt even more intense that day. Preparations were under way, the wing was laid out and, with every passing moment, the decisive step drew closer. The excitement was unmistakable—focused, alert and filled with anticipation for what was about to come. Then we were off. A few steps, the first lift and suddenly the wing carried us. Alongside pilot Tobi, T.LIKES.IT embarked on a tandem flight with VOGELFREI, and the initial tension quickly began to change. Oberstdorf grew smaller, the view across the Allgäu Alps widened and the thrill gave way to an unexpected calm. For a few minutes, all that mattered was the air, the mountain panorama and the trust within this special moment. It was precisely this combination that made the flight so memorable: the professional guidance, the sensation of height and, at the same time, the almost silent freedom above the valley. The flight ended with the landing at Oybele, but the experience lingered on. What remained was a sense of relief, exhilaration and the memory of the moment when the ground grew smaller and the world above Oberstdorf suddenly opened wide.
Moment
„Pure adrenaline—an experience to savour that stays with you forever!“
Route
The route.
The tour began in Oberstdorf with the ascent on the Nebelhornbahn to Höfatsblick station. From there, we continued to the launch area by the Höfatsblick / Probsthaus mountain station, situated at around 1,930 metres in the Nebelhorn flying area. After preparation, a safety check and a briefing, the tandem flight with VOGELFREI and pilot Tobi began there. The flight led from the alpine launch site above Oberstdorf out over the valley. Views opened up across the Allgäu Alps, the mountain slopes around the Nebelhorn and the village far below the wing. Once airborne, the initial excitement developed into an intense sense of space, calm and freedom. We landed in Oberstdorf at the designated Oybele landing zone. The official Nebelhorn Oybele landing site lies at around 830 metres in the Oberstdorf valley, near the sports facilities / Oybele-Halle. The flight therefore descended from the Höfatsblick launch site at approximately 1,930 metres to the Oybele landing field at approximately 830 metres.
Personal note
What stayed with us most was the change between take-off and flight. Beforehand, there was this focused excitement that made every movement and every second feel unusually vivid. As soon as the wing lifted us, it turned into pure exhilaration. Seeing Oberstdorf beneath the wing and experiencing the Allgäu Alps from this perspective was both thrilling and surprisingly peaceful. It was not a moment you simply tick off, but one you carry with you for a long time.
