Oberstdorf has close ties to winter sports. On this winter day, our path led us to one of the region’s most impressive venues: the Heini-Klopfer Ski Flying Hill and the 2026 Ski Flying World Championships. The sheer scale of the facility gave our visit a special setting from the outset. ⛰️❄️ We were right in the midst of the crowd and close to the biggest stars of ski jumping. What already looks spectacular from a distance felt even more impressive on site: the scale of the hill, the atmosphere surrounding the competition and the flights we were able to watch from close range.

A Winter Day Dedicated to Ski Flying

For us, the Ski Flying World Championships in Oberstdorf were more than just an ordinary event. At the Heini-Klopfer Ski Flying Hill, the special backdrop of the Allgäu, the impressive scale of the facility and the anticipation in the crowd all came together. We were not standing somewhere on the sidelines, but right at the heart of this winter sports moment. 🦅 Being there made the immense scale of a ski flying hill particularly clear. Seen up close, the entire facility was even more impressive than we had expected. Without the need for any grand staging, the venue and the action alone created an atmosphere that kept drawing our attention back to the hill. And then there were the flights themselves. Experiencing the biggest stars of ski jumping up close and following their jumps firsthand was one of the day’s most powerful impressions. At the same time, the crowd contributed greatly to the atmosphere. The shared focus, the reactions to the flights and the feeling of experiencing this competition together made the visit special. In the end, what stayed with us most was the memory of a beautiful winter day in Oberstdorf. The scale of the hill, our proximity to the sporting action and the atmosphere in the crowd combined to create an experience that was clearly different from our classic days out on tour—and precisely for that reason deserves a permanent place in our shared tour diary. 🏔️✨
