Lake Lucerne

We arrived the evening before and spent the night in the car right by the lake in Zug. The next morning, we continued to the car park by the lido and beach in Lucerne—the starting point of our first bike tour together in Switzerland.

Tour report

Our First Bike Tour Together in Switzerland

We had travelled to Zug the evening before and spent the night in the car by the lake. We were full of anticipation for our first bike tour together in Switzerland and set off the next morning feeling suitably excited. From Zug, we drove to Lucerne and parked the car by the lido and beach. This was where our E-bike loop began. In glorious sunshine, 63.9 kilometres and 790 metres of elevation gain lay ahead of us. The special moments along the way included the ferry crossing and Mount Rigi as a hub for the mountain railways. At the same time, there was plenty of room to appreciate the scenery, the lake and the peaceful atmosphere along the route. We were particularly struck by the cleanliness and the friendliness of the people. Above all, one personal impression stayed with us after that day: Switzerland is a beautiful country—and we would love to return.

Moment

Glorious sunshine, the ferry crossing and Mount Rigi—a memorable start to our bike tours together in Switzerland.

The route.

The loop started and ended at the car park by the lido and beach in Lucerne. Covering a total of 63.9 kilometres, it led through the region around Lake Lucerne and included a ferry crossing as well as a section by Mount Rigi. According to the GPX data, the moving time was 4 hours and 36 minutes, while the total time including breaks was 7 hours and 58 minutes. The route involved 790 metres of ascent and descent respectively. The lowest point was at 432 metres and the highest at 726 metres. The average speed was 13.9 km/h, with a smoothed maximum speed of 33.3 km/h.

Personal note

For us, this tour remains closely connected to the feeling of our first cycling adventure together in Switzerland. The night in the car by the lake in Zug, the excitement in the morning and the start in Lucerne all made the trip special. By the end, we agreed: we would like to visit this beautiful country again.
